A one-day Battersea festival staged in June shone a light on a range of topics related to mental health including grief, rage, isolated and the negative representations of black communities in the media. Free Up Festival took place in the summer and was organised by the Inside-Out Collective. The collective consists of five young women supporting young people and showcasing their talents, generating valuable discussions around Covid-19, mental health and the Black Lives Matter movement.
A showcase for diversity and creativity
The event aimed to showcase the diversity and talent in the Battersea area, giving the community a welcoming space to heal. Consisting of live podcast discussions around various relevant issues, films showcasing the experiences of local residents, interactive workshops and a crime prevention board game called Life Is What U Make It, the event took place in early July.
